DAVID KIRKPATRICK

David Kirkpatrick, most notably, was the President of Paramount Pictures and the Production President of Walt Disney Studios. He started as a writer, selling his first script to Paramount at 16. He became story editor at Paramount at 25.  Over his long career, David has worked on over 200 motion pictures starting with ideas and seeing them through to successful production, marketing, and  distribution. He has worked on such recognizable  global franchises as Indiana Jones,  and Star Trek.  He has worked on countless Academy Award winning movies including Ordinary People, Elephant Man, and developed the movie that became Forest Gump.  David is a believer in giving back, wanting to inspire and equip the writers of tomorrow, believing fiction is an underutilized  tool that can help build a better world.

David Kirkpatrick’s knowledge has given me the insight to make my screenplay richer and more marketable. He doesn’t just invest in your story, but he invests in you as a writer. He’s extremely patient, willing and encouraging.  He welcomes you with open arms, creating a fun and comfortable space for creative freedom. Any person working with David will truly be transformed from an aspiring writer into a writer.

-Bailey Patterson, screenwriter, The Family

David shows us how storytelling is at the very root of what makes us uniquely human. It is how we share our experiences, learn from our past, and imagine our future. He inspires us all.

–Frank Moss, Director, MIT Media Lab

As a keynote speaker at the  annual Building Learning Communities Conference, David completely charged up the 1200 innovative educators from around the world. The twitter feeds were so hot from everything he was saying, I thought he might burn down the room
