Let the work be its own reward.

Many see success as getting published, bought, or in the case of movies, TV, and theater, produced. (Though I do know a screenwriter who has made an annual six figure income for twenty years selling his scripts while still waiting for one to be produced.) These are worthy goals but ones dependent in part on what someone else needs at the moment of pitch or submission. Thats random.

Another measure, perhaps first, is our own satisfaction with our work; the act of stringing together words that gleam with our desired level of artistry and meaning. Let doing the work serve as its own reward.
