A Special Story Summit Invitation to
The Okoboji Writers’ Retreat
September 22-25, 2024
Okoboji, Iowa
We’ve heard from many Summiteers requesting quality, budget-friendly writing events that are in different parts of the country. That’s why we’re excited to offer a new retreat option: The Okoboji Writers’ Retreat (OWR), held on the scenic shores of Lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa.
This year’s retreat will be held September 22-25, so we encourage you to check it out right away. Held for the first time in 2021, it has become a regional powerhouse of a conference, this year welcoming 250 participants at all skill levels and 50 faculty in multiple genres. Read more about the Okoboji Retreat Here.
OWR was started by former Iowa columnist and radio talk show host Julie Gammack, who knows the importance of storytelling. “OWR speakers understand their job is to serve attendees, wherever they are in the writing process, and that there is a story in everyone,” she says.
Our own Debra Engle and Julie Cantrell will be there, offering small group mentoring in memoir. And when you register as a Summiteer, you'll save $50 on the registration fee!
This is an excellent chance to gather with other writers in the heartland, learn from industry professionals in multiple breakout sessions, and enjoy the magical setting, with wooded paths and spectacular views of the lake.
There are just a few places left for this year’s retreat, so please check out the event details here. And if you register, please use the link below to indicate that you’re a Summiteer and save $50!!
"At the Okoboji Writers' Retreat, you'll meet 300 new friends and learn from a cast of facilitators who cover a variety of topics. Topics such as fiction, memoir, nonfiction, editing, blogging, poetry, songwriting, playwriting, column-writing, nuts-and-bolts, storytelling, writing for visual media, marketing, public speaking, and more. I'm preparing to attend the 4th annual retreat at Okoboji. I always leave so inspired, so grateful and thankful for the opportunity."
